Studio on track to open stage in Wilmington

Wednesday, March 18, 2009WILMINGTON, N.C. — The third-largest film and production stage in the United States is on track to open in May in Wilmington.Officials with EUE/Screen Gems said Wednesday that its “Dream Stage 10″ is scheduled to open May 22. Already, they said, two large feature films are considering filming at the 37,500-foot, column-free stage that includes a 186,000-gallon indoor special effects water tank.The water tank will be one of only three in North America. The other two are studio-owned, which means outside productions have limited access.EUE/Screen Gems broke ground on the stage in September 2008. The CW series “One Tree Hill” films at the studio. Movies recently filmed there include “Nights in Rodanthe” and “The Secret Life of Bees.”
